A saving of £102,000
and 4 weeks on
Traffic Management

We make sure your diversions are quoted correctly and you are protected.

Whilst this may not seem a lot of money and time, for this small housebuilder in the East Midlands, it was huge, a lot of money and crucial on the time saving.

Firstly they were quoted £102,000 for Traffic Management for a period of 3 months of a road closure.

Challenge No 1

Firstly, this should had been free of charge. Developers do not realise that Undertakers (Utility Companies) should not be quoting for Traffic Management first off when it is part of a diversion, this is out of Best Practice with the Diversionary Code and worse case, certainly unethical.

Secondly, they were quoted for 3 months of Traffic Management.

Challenge No 2

The Undertaker put far too much contingency into this time period and when we asked to explain why the time was quoted as 3 months due to this being a standard piece of work, they never had an answer.

We politely and professionally informed them why we believed the work was a standard piece of work which would take around 40 working days, give or take a day or two, not 60 working days.

They agreed with our comments on timings which was formerly booked in with them at 40 working days with a specific date for arrival on site and a date for completion.

Undertakers do not feel comfortable giving you dates as they have a lot of work on and their work is their priority, understandably, but when they don’t show up on the date you are expecting as agreed because of their priorities and end up being days late, the project runs over and you are left paying for the Traffic Management at circa £1,700 a day, that is not cricket.

Its disrespectful to this housebuilder as they have tight deadlines they are working too and unprofessional.

Our objective is to remove the stress for the housebuilder and help reduce their costs and wasted resource by the mismanagement of the utilities work being carried out at the quotation stage and the physical work by the Undertakers and making sure their quotations are;

  1. Accurate

  2. Inline with the Diversionary Code and Best Practice and

  3. That they start work when they are supposed to and hopefully finish on time (variations aside)

We can help you make sure your diversions are quoted correctly, that you are protected legally so there is no come back on you for any changes that may need to be made in the future due to any negligence of the Undertakers works and that your diversionary works do not impact the timescales of your project build and cost you more time, money and wasted resource.
